BreakinBear is Matt Wells and Matt Train. Wells is a breaks producer and drummer. He lives in Brighton. Train is a guitarist and song-writer. He lives in London. They began recording in Wells' garage studio together in 1998 and have worked on various projects together since then.

BreakinBear was conceived after Wells showed Train something he had done with an old riff, putting completely new production around it and chopping the original track up into samples of guitar riffs and vocal parts. They decided to work on producing more tunes using these methods.
