Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) in Brattleboro, Vermont presents the "VT Kids Design Glass II" exhibit, on display November 1, 2013 — March 8, 2014.
Inspired by a program at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington, BMAC organized "VT Kids Design Glass" in 2011, which included an exhibit of fantastic glass creations featuring kids' drawings of imaginary creatures brought to life by 12 amazing glass artists.
During the 2012-13 school year, BMAC received over 800 drawings of imaginary creatures from kids in grades K-6. In 2013, 17 professional glass artists selected 24 of the drawings to be turned into glass and featured in "VT Kids Design Glass II."
Vermont glass artist Chris Sherwin (http://www.sherwinartglass.com
) set out to create "Fred the Frog" based on a drawing by Andrew Cushman. BMAC joined Chris in his Bellow Falls, VT-based studio to capture the glassblowing process and learn about the challenges of creating a 3D glass sculpture from a child's 2D drawing.
Watch as Chris transforms a blob of clear glass into a one-of-a-kind glass sculpture.
