Written by Irish musician Proinsias Ó Maonaigh (father of Altan's Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan) about his hometown of Gweedore in County Donegal.
Altan's version of the song appears on their album Runaway Sunday.
Irish singer Paul Brady has recorded the song on numerous occasions.

Edward is an old Scottish folk song, this is a new recording (late 90s, I think). This version is by Old Blind Dogs, who are a traditional Scottish folk band who've been around since the 1990 or so. The singer has a very thick Scottish accent, so it may be hard to understand him but it is a superb song!
