I was stationed there 1970-74. Minoters are the most wonderful people I've ever met. I have fond memories of Minot when it had almost nothing there. The Broadway Bridge was wood... There was a USO downtown. Gas was 50 cents a gallon. We'd go swimming at Old Settler's Park. The town ended at t...

    born2soon born2soon commented:

@MrLudwigVonSchnauzer Yes, you're right. They want to tear it, and Hangar 2 down and build a new airport terminal. Yes, the runway is active partially for small aircraft. Air Force One could not land here.

@jims59DOTcom A neighbor kid had one of these in the early sixties. I remember looking in the trunk and seeing a long row of solenoids, like 27 or 28. He said if one didn't work, the whole thing didn't work. Is that right?

My wife's cousin's husband was Commander of Flight Ops on the Forrestal back in the 80's...Lt.Com. Paul Skurski. He took us aboard for Family Day in May 87. We went 43 miles out in the ocean and you guys put on an air show that my Air Force buddies couldn't begin to match. Strafing and a fly-...

I grew up in German Village in the fifties and sixties, attended Beck Street Elementary School, and I felt even then that the area had potential. I knew it was a sin that those brick houses were painted. I hated to see those houses torn down to make way for I-70. I have a memory of every street ...

    Minot Snow 2008-11-06

    born2soon born2soon commented:

You should have been in Minot back in the early 70's. There was nothing in that town. Empty prairie past the drive in on the south end. One female airman at the base, a Captain nurse. Everything was closed on Sunday. A terrible place to be at 18, no car, lousy pay. God Bless those Scandanavian ...

My grandfather had a '49 8N on his 11 acre farm on county road 39 in Pataskala Ohio. I always got excited when I heard him fire it up. He raked hay with it, plowed a small garden for grandma with it, and pulled a homemade GMC truck bed trailer all over the county with it. I loved riding down th...

B-52 MITO departure, Minot AFB, ND

Alert response and 15-ship B-52 Minimum Interval Take-Off (MITO), in support of Exercise GLOBAL THUNDER, Minot AFB, ND, June 09

    born2soon born2soon commented:

@BeauGypsy I remember the KC-135's at Minot taking every inch of that 3 mile runway to get airborne. I used to sweat bullets watching those planes take off. The farmer at the end of the runway couldn't plant corn in that field...the tires would knock the ears off.
