In this adaptation of the classic melodramatic novel "Trilby" by George Du Maurier, the hapless title character is mesmerized by her nefarious voice coach, the famous Svengali. Trilby's true love, poor Little Billee, is no match for the hypnotically animalistic Svengali, and is left alone, dreaming of the life they might have lived in Barbizon.

At the time of its publication, 1894, it was an insanely popular novel. Now, not so much, although Svengali is still a rather famous character. If you were ever curious to know what happens in this compellingly demented novel, but didn't want to read 400 pages, watching this film should be enough.

I, Ricky Sprague, did the animation and adaptation, and provided the voice of the incomparable Svengali. Jeff Porterfield provided the music, and the voice of the sadly tragic title character. (less info)
