Ha!, you think this orchestration is unique, on one Herrmann scoring assignment 4 Trombonists walked into the scoring stage to find only 4 chairs. I believe it was for HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL TV show.

If Bernard Herrmann were alive today he would be sueing everyone within earshot for stealing his TWISTED NERVE theme...from Tarantino to AHS. It seems every director in Hollywood today wants Herrmann reincarnated so he can score their films.

Herrmann recorded this in 1975 in failing health but he also purposely slowed the tempo so as to present it in 'concert form'...he was known for barking out..."THIS AIN'T THE FILM!!".

To some..this cue...not Vertigo, Psycho, Citizen Kane et al. is one of the best in the Herrmann pantheon..the droplet like harp arpeggios complimented by high strings followed by lower celli suggest lands and times unknown. The matte backdrop for the scene this cue was composed for was deft in it...

not bad..a little heaviesh at moments...remember Benny would have said.."You don't need all those instruments!"...that was the minimalist in him. Keep it up!

One of the best readings of this cue...ever! The cantankerous Herrmann would have gone..."Way to go EP!

Elfman wouldn't have minded...he'd have said...Hell, I'm a Bernie Herrmann freak like so many others...But in the end Batman is his work and its superb!

by god jw this works!...something tells me that Benny Herrmann would have 'upped' the pace of the actual sabre fight with one of his more ferocious cues (ala the dueling skeletons in both SINBAD and JASON or perhaps the Death Hunt from ON DANGEROUS GROUND). Great job!

The Nautilus is truly a unique cue...muted trumpets, high strings and vibraphone create, indeed, a mystical feel of time past echoing ancient unknowns...great cue.
