In SOI a combat instructor told us that the meanest Marines weren't NCO's or even SNCO's, it was always going to be LCpls with a deployment under their belts.

nah dude, ALL Marines go to through the same boot camp. Cooks and Grunts, Admin and Recon all train together. After boot, all go to SOI but within SOI you have ITB and MCT. ITB is for Grunts and Recon, MCT is for everyone else (aka POGs). And once more, AFTER ITB, Recon Marines go to ...
