About this user

Tom was born at home in 1951. This home was a draughty attic flat in the Finkenwerder peninsula of Hamburg.
The first years of my childhood in Finkenwerder were on the whole very pleasant, on an island, which at that time anyway was so beautiful. Our challenges were the trenches, the cutters, the old bunkers, the parts of the old port, the Elbe and the South Elbe, the harbour, the ships and of course Hamburg. We started early, got the bicycles out and set off in the direction of the coal ships to the old "Elbtunnel", and when in the city we quickly went to the Brinkmann store, where we marvelled at the toys.
In 1964: the aims of my more or less secret Hamburg trips became different.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! What was in that Star Club then? In the Top Ten? The lights on the Reeperbahn were also impressive during the day. What sort of music was it then, that pulled me and my classmates towards it?
The great music that was spilling out over Hamburg, the Beatles started here.
It was the American Folk & Blues Festival that bowled me over. We were increasingly going with the flow. Fever! The Beatles against the Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Pretty Things. Classroom squabbles and bloody noses ensued.
...and then, in 1965, my parents bought me an electric guitar for Christmas. In 1966 my first band, a school band was founded -- no comment!
In 1967 first entrance into class parties. A time of breaking up and of new friendships.
Going forward with music: many nice people, good musicians, different projects and bands, over the years. The recollection of all this is still happening, but it still tickles me. And it seems to me, as if we stand again in a phase of breaking up. Where is it? Who knows? Music is a part of our life. Real music represents "without our façade" and shows also what we have inside. I prepare for big joy, if the boys can start something with our music.
