Hello, my name is John Shipman. I'm a songwriter, lyricist, vocalist, guitar player, bass player, keyboardist and Hornist (as in French Horn) seeking out musicians to join or to form a group of my own. The name of my solo (so far) musical project is called deflection, which aims to cover many different styles, hybrids, and sub-genres of heavy metal. A theoretical album would likely change genres every track (i.e. thrash metal, death metal, black metal, funk metal, progressive metal, doom metal, power metal, avant-garde metal, the works). I also aim to try to make each track an essential addition to each genre. Why do this? I simply have too many different ideas and can't commit to one inflexible style for a particular project.

However, my current dream is to become the next Angry Video Game Nerd, Nostalgia Critic, Spoony, etc. Yeah, I know some of you are rolling your eyes, but I would like to primarily focus on music, reviewing specific albums in an artist's discography, or an overview of an entire artist's catalog (I'd review video games too, of course). The genres of music would be primarily late 80s/early 90s alternative rock and alternative metal (and modern rock as a whole), funk rock/metal, and, most importantly, various forms of heavy and extreme metal. I'm not really aiming to make it overly "funny" (take that how you will); more like a video review that goes very in-depth: to give veterans of the genres and artists something to consider/listen to while explaining the vast history of metal and the wide array of styles and themes to outsiders. At least I hope to explain to ignorant people that there is a much deeper world of metal outside of what's covered in Guitar World or some other such nonsense they perceive from the "mainstream".

Here's hoping I can actually get this off the ground, without ripping my influences off, being horribly boring and/or unfunny, or just being a pretentious prick. Well, maybe just a little bit of a pretentious prick. :)
