I download all my music from filestube.com, a great site, but I do buy almost every album. And trust me, if you want to buy the music because you want to support the band, only do it when bands are active! You don't support Death by buying Scream Bloody Gore for example, you support the guy who is selling it lol.

I worked at a bar for sometime and I earned some good cash, that's how I got some really rare cd's, some costed me 60 euro's. But yes, it's hard for our age to get a steady income, especially for you when you are 15 yes.

It also took me some time to get into black metal, but check out Burzum - Key to Gate, it's not that different then melodic death metal at all. It starts with some real dissonant stuff and riffs and vocals that bring tortured vocals to a new level. It keeps on like this for a while, until after a few minutes when a bridge comes, after that it gets really atmospheric, beautiful riffs that keeps going on till the end, some people call Varg crazy, but he was a real artist.

Btw, check this song out: In Flames - Ever Dying.
I am not shure if you heard that song, but it's one of their best, no doubt. It starts as straightforward melodic death metal, going acoustic right in the middle like only In Flames can do, going bezerk at the end and finish it with a beautiful instrumental piece.

I love Dark Tranquillity, I even uploaded a video showing my Dark Tranquillity collection. I got the original Moonclad EP, which is extremely rare. I love their first 3 albums, and especially their old demo's.

And yes, it's lame to dislike Slaughter of the Soul for influencing metalcore, but the reason I don't like it is because it lacks strangeness. It's just so straightforward and the songs lack those strange parts what the other albums had.

Let me tell you something, the Jester Race is one of my favorite albums of all time. December Flower, Dead Eternity, The Jester Race and Dance, Moonshield, Lord Hypnos, that are the songs I like the most. And yes! At the Gates is also one of my favorite bands. My favorite album of them is without doubt The Red in the Sky is Ours, it's my favorite death metal album ever. Beautiful yet disturbing. Crazy riffing, tortured vocals, deep lyrics, beautiful violin pieces etc...... Second is With Fear I kiss the Burning Darkness and Gardens of Grief, third is Terminal Spirit Disease and I'm nog a big fan of Slaughter of the Soul. Seems you either love that album of hate it.

Those albums are my favorite thrash metal albums ever. You also got same great names in your background, especially the In Flames one, that you choose their first logo ever, the one that was on Lunar Strain, Subterranean and The Jester Race (their best work imo).
