The Computer Academy: Complete Episodes (1983) Play

'The Computer Academy' was a 12 week hands-on introduction to home computers. The Academy consisted of the series 'Bits and Bytes' — highly acclaimed as an entertaining and effective introduction to computers — and a follow up program in which Jack Livesley, Jim Butterfield and their guests expand on the themes.

When it originally aired, viewers could register for with TV Ontario to receive a resource book that summarised each program, a home guide to microcomputers, a beginners manual, a computer-managed correspondence service, and more.

As these series are no longer available for sale, they have been made available here for posterity. Thanks go to Kazuko and Peter for sharing their copy of 'Bits and Bytes', and to Steve and Mike for making 'The Academy' available to viewers, new and old. 'The Academy' is a Canadian television series about microcomputers and the companion to Bits and Bytes; while these two series cover the same topics, The Academy explores the key concepts in greater detail. It was produced by TVOntario in 1983, stars Jack Livesley and Jim Butterfield, and includes interviews and panel discussions with many more people.

Bits and Bytes 2: Mostly Complete Episodes (1993) Play

'Bits and Bytes 2' is a Canadian television series about personal computers, and is the sequel to 'Bits and Bytes'. Where the original series provided a broader introduction to key computing concepts and many of the popular microcomputers of the 1980s, the second series had a greater focus on the IBM PC and Apple Macintosh, and their use as appliances. It was produced by TVOntario in 1993, and stars Billy Van as the instructor and Victoria Stokle as the student.

(Unfortunately we're currently missing the first episode, but if we get a copy, we'll add it to this playlist.)
