We already used gunpowder, bought it at walmart for 17 bux, if you fill the pingpong ball then stuff it with cotten, cover the whole thing with masking tape then cut a small hole and push a fuse from a bottle rocket in there, it blows up very loud but you only need like...15-20 feet clearance...and it works better with film cases.
