Oil always drained into the bottom cylinders and thats the reason why you get the smoke and flames due to the rick mixture and a cold start.All clears under load but i think that engine may have a problem with that amount of smoke

The best engine you could ever put in a boat ,I ran a 4lw years made in 1958 and given a top end overhaul in 1996 and it was as good as the day it was made.It ran on fresh air and the same boat and its engine are still running today! Be proud of what you made as you are the best

Spot on,ive done a good few myself.I had them in my boats and can say these are great engines even when they are now all a brave age.must be the one of the most easy engines to work on and maintain.Like the tool for removing the front pully as some can be very tight as you will know

Went through 2 stroke oil at one hell of a rate and petrol ,you lost the centre pot in the rain and the points x3 another problem.But very quick in the 70's and no other bike sounds like them, with a bit of a tune a RD woulndnt keep up with one
