The Saxophone Cartel is a progressive woodwind collective exploring the boundaries of jazz and free improvisation. It has been exploring new soundscapes since 2003 utilizing the soprano, alto, tenor, c-melody, bari, bass sax, clarinet, bass clarinet, flute and didjeridoo. The unique Cartel sound ranges from jazz to classical to noise to funk to world to blues to free improv - all with humor and passion. Its Debut CD "Caught in the Act" presents a careful selection of their adventurous free improvisations and energetic original compositions. Its experimental music lies on the cutting edge of stylistic boundaries, breaking barriers to bring saxophone ensembles into the 21st century. The Sax Cartel was founded at the IU School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana in April 2003.

Das Saxophone Cartel ist ein progressives Holzbläserkollektiv aus den USA, welches sich dem Grenzbereich von Jazz und freier Improvisation verschrieben hat. Bewaffnet mit Sopran-, Alt-, C-melody-, Tenor- und Basssaxophon, Klarinette, Bassklarinette, Querflöte and Didjeridu erschließt es seit 2003 immer neue Klangwelten. In dieser Form einzigartig, lässt sich das an der renomierten Indiana University School of Music gegründete Ensemble höchstens mit der Kölner Saxophon Mafia, dem ROVA Saxophone Quartet und dem World Saxophone Quartet vergleichen. Die Debut CD "Caught in the Act" des Sax Cartels präsentiert eine sorgfältige Auswahl seiner abenteuerlustigen freien Improvisationen und energischen, experimentierfreudigen Eigenkompositionen.
