Beyond S.O.U.L. (S.O.U.L. for short) is an independent Contemporary Soul recording artist/songwriter whose vocal and lyrical influences include artists such as Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Rachelle Ferrell and Jill Scott. He was born David Blake on September 29, 1978 and was raised on the west side of Detroit.
Growing up in Motown, music has played an identifying role in David's life. However, it wasn't until the age of 12 that he discovered that he had developed a passion for singing. Then, at age 15 with the inspiration of his older brother and the influence of his high school American Literature teacher, David discovered that he possessed a second gift which is creative writing. As a young man he had a lot to say and he was actively seeking for a way to express it all, so he began to channel and translate his deepest emotions into poems, short stories and songs.
Though the years, David gained his experience by performing with various local artists and singing groups. He developed his vocal talent by singing with The Spirit of Life Choir in Miami, FL under the direction of Pastor Avery Jones of the Miami Mass Choir. He has also been featured in a number opening performances for some of the top artists in gospel and R&B such as Melba Moore, Karen Clark Sheard, Kiki Sheard and Kelly Price.

In 2005, the name Beyond S.O.U.L. was given to David by a friend and colleague in Florida where he currently resides and where he has been a confidant to many. By sharing testimonies and other real situations that he endured as an independent 16-years-old surviving on the streets of Detroit as well as his journey though adulthood, he was named Beyond S.O.U.L. The acronym "S.O.U.L." stands for Sharer of Useful Lessons. A well suited title that underlines the qualities in him that drives him to help and support his fellow man.
S.O.U.L.'s Goal as a writer is to translate his life's experiences into lyrics and express them with pure emotion and artistry as a vocal stylist. Drawing on memories, dreams, and everyday conversations, S.O.U.L.'s mission is to reach a different demographic with every song, spoken word piece or short story he composes. By bringing live instrumentation and real vocals back to the forefront and presenting lyrical content that is strong in concept. He has the highest hope of being able to encourage his listeners as he explores a wide range of emotions, from the absolute joys in his life to his deepest pain and darkest secrets.
