Cruel But Necessary is the story of Betty Munson's strange and comic adventures after she finds out, on a family video, that her husband has been cheating on her.
Betty becomes driven to discover what other secrets surround her and so she videotapes every aspect of her life: her son, her friends, her job, her dates, her mother and father, her ex -- sometimes with a hidden camera.
Betty may not be ready for what she discovers. And the people she tapes may not be ready to have their secrets known.
The film is seen entirely from the viewpoint of Betty's video camera.
