u r rite, it was not phil's experience (air of the night) but that of a friend's. She had been the daughter of a hitman and witnessed all kinds of things so she wrote this song about how she hated her father and hated what he had done. I happen to know Phil and the friend and what happened was she liked his drumming situation from the band Genesis and asked him to perform the song. He did that for her since she was fearful of singing it herself, for fear of some reprisal and being a compassionate human being Phil also sang for her "Another day in Paradise" which was her experience about living out on the street after her father died. He helped her and comforted her, helped her find a brother who could care for her in a safe place. That's it.
