Quite misleading really. Firstly, a RAID system can actually increase the chance of losing your entire data array. Especially with RAID 5, which isn't good enough for today's array sizes. RAID is NOT a backup.

  I'm not sure how viable it is, but what you can do is use your surplus wind and solar power to pump water into a tower. Then at night/winter or when the wind is down, you turn the water pump into a hydro generator. I don't know too much about it though.
