Khayyam was an 11th century Persian/Iranian scientist who has become famous in Iran and the Western world based on the poetry attributed to him after his death. In 1859, a collection of poetry attributed to Khayyam was translated into English language by Edward Fitzgerald in a book titled The Rubaiyyat of Omar Khayyam. . The Rubaiyyat became a literary sensation, particularly in England and North America, and influenced and inspired many great literary minds of the Western world such as Ezra Pound, Mark Twain, and T.S. Eliot, to name a few. There was even a famous American general that was named after Khayyam ( Omar Bradley). In addition, Khayyam literary and social clubs flourished in North America and European countries. The influence of this book in English language and work is indisputable.
