Have you tried using 3 diodes prior to the join? Diodes only allow current in one direction.

This is very helpful, thanks for spending the time to show this example on YouTube. I have the nova system and plan to get the nova drive soon to add flexibility to my rig. MIDI adds a lot of flexibility but unfortunately not everyone understands it properly.
