It's a pushrod engine right?
It's just the valve train being cold...my 96 Cavalier with the 2.2 OHV did the same thing. In the dead of winter on a cold start it was ticky and loud. Give it 10 mins and it all calmed down. If you want to quiet it down a little go to a 5W-40 oil.

-low gearing with lots of power and a poor suspension/tire setup will lead to while spin.
