The BBC's W1 Careers Week Play

The BBC's W1 Careers Week from 23 to 27 June 2014 offered practical ways for BBC staff to develop their skills, experience and career, with a variety of workshops and people to talk to throughout the week. It was an opportunity for staff to think about their career and how to build on their existing skills and experience in their current job, department, or maybe in other parts of the BBC.

The BBC College of Journalism and New York Times run London Social Media Summit 2014 #smsldn was a day of debate and discussion on the most important issues facing journalists and news organisations using social media.

The event consisted of a series of panel discussions and keynote speeches. We heard from people including head of news and journalism partnerships at Twitter, Vivian Schiller, and James Harding, director of news and current affairs at the BBC.

Some stories pose a risk to your physical or mental health. But it's not only reporting from a war zone that can expose individuals to trauma or injury. Covering a distressing court case, road accident or natural disaster may have an impact on mental health, while injuries can occur at any time. This section of the College of Journalism website offers advice on managing post-traumatic stress and first aid techniques.
