This is how my dad knits, and he taught me to do the same. He explained that it makes more sense, and is faster, since you don't have to keep letting go of the needle and then grabbing it again.

@vovvo6 I need a swift! I've been jerry-rigging "swifts" for over a year, ever since I got my spinning wheel up and running, and now I've got yarn in non-pull-skeins that needs winding before I can use it. Maybe even I could come up with a swift like yours--it's so simple.
