@JenniJayne2 definitely respect your right and preference. Our hospital follows the evidence-based recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics to assess, monitor, bathe and give newborns a vitamin K injection within a certain amount of time. Usually, after vaginal deliveries the baby is taken from the mother to the hospital nursery about an hour after delivery. This is so that nurses can assess the baby's temperature and other vital signs and monitor the infant for any signs of infection or injuries. The baby is also bathed here. This transition time is usually about two hours. Moms who request that the baby be returned quickly will be accommodated, but the transition period is generally still one hour. Our goal is always to give the most appropriate care for our babies and their mothers.

I am so grateful for my home births! There is so way I would give birth there! Only one hour to bond with my baby and you *must* have all these exams, tests, monitoring, etc? I'll continue to have babies at home where I can listen to my own body and hold my new baby as much as I want, thank you very much...
