Hey everyone. My name's Wijnand but you can best pronounce it without the 'j' then you'll be close enough.
I play the guitar for about 16 years now and love to spend as much time with my guitar as possible but with a 'normal' life that's pretty hard from time to time. (I mean I don't lock myself up in the attic 24/7 but also have a regular job to do, so...)
I live in Holland by the way.
Anyway my favourite music (in no particular order) is Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt) Slash (Guns 'n Roses), Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Ugly Kid Joe, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, Queen, Toto (Steve Lukather) System of a Down, Red Hot chili peppers, Dream Theater, Pearl Jam, Kansas, Boston, Journey, Bon Jovi, Evanescence, Creed, Dire Straits and lots and lots of others.
I grew up with loads of Boston, Kansas, journey, REO speedwagon and TOTO music, you might say these bands inspired me to start my own musical journey. Specially TOTO was a big influence to pick up the guitar myself and start playing.
I have a pretty big music collection I might say, so when I'm not playing or making music myself I listen to it all the time!! I couldn't live without it for one day, music is my life for that matter. Always brings a smile to my face.
I try to focus not on just one particular guitar player but to maintain an open ear for everything that's out there.(yeah that's a lot I know...)
I'm in two bands right now (Bad Moon and N18) and I'm composing my own stuff at the moment, it may take a while before you can hear it since I'm almost never satisfied with my own work and very critical about what I'm doing.

My initial goal was to upload these songs to inspire other people to pick up the guitar and see for themselves it can be done and if you truely love it you can come a long way.
I don't consider myself a guitar talent, not at all actually!!

I am self taught, just bought tons of guitar TAB books (before the internet) when I started and just started playing...
Man i get excited just to play a single note :)
Also sorted out all kinds of solos by just listening over and over (rewind the tape) till i hit every note right or...i thought i did.
But it surely helps to develop a musical ear and therefore develop your playing as a guitarist (in my opinion).
With the proper motivation, inspiration and determination I'm sure most of you can reach my level of guitar playing simply by doing it over and over again and just HAVE FUN!!
Don't beat yourself up by trying to play the most difficult solo but always search for something that's just out of your range.
Focus on that and you will get it done eventually. Than move up to the next song that's just out of your league...

Anyway that's how I try to get better. Don't be discouraged, sometimes it seems like your stuck in your ability to move on and become a better guitar player.That may take a while and then suddenly you feel like you have progressed...well that's life I guess (geez... getting philosophical? that's my cue to stop writing I guess :)

If I've got any spare time left besides playing I also love to watch movies (big DVD collection and Blu-ray) and some good tv-shows (CSI and Boston legal are my favorites now and the x-files/ Law & Order, the Practice and Homicide: life on the street used to be soooo cool too!)
Lately I'm watching 'The Mentalist' too...
