Going strong at 67, for thirty-five of those years blues musician (fingerstyle guitar, blues harp, mandolin, vocals) and folklorist Peter Narvaez (pronounced nar-VY-ez) has entertained Newfoundland, Atlantic Canadian, and international audiences with his roots acoustic repertoire of downhome blues, ragtime, 'songster' pieces, and original songs and instrumentals based on these traditional forms. He made his first LP (HOMEGAS) on John Fahey's Takoma label in 1968 and has played blues with many blues greats including Skip James, Sleepy John Estes, Yank Rachell, Big Joe Williams, Bukka White, Victoria Spivey, Johnny Shines, Fred McDowell, Pinetop Perkins, Denis Parker, Roger Howse, Scott Goudie, Steve Hussey and Brad Power. His live recordings of Skip James were issued by Johnnie Parth's Document label (DOCD 5634 and 5635) in 1999. He has played blues in Newfoundland, particularly in St. John's, his home, with seasonal appearances at international blues events and music festivals in the Atlantic Provinces and the Eastern US. His last CD, SOME GOOD BLUES, received critical acclaim and was nominated for best blues CD of the year by the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUSICNL) and the East Coast Music Awards (ECMA).You can order SOME GOOD BLUES on CD at Fred's (St. John's, NL) or CD Baby.
