at that close of range with a .270 (one of the fastest and flattest shooting calibers) the bullet goes through to fast to do instant mortal damage..if that same shot would of been taken with a 30/30 or 32 special (slower bullet speed) the deer probably would of dropped in it's tracks....try that...
