Anyway, the common denominator here is that we both enjoy Mozart's music, and this great work by him. So let's just leave it at that ;) No need for insults or negativity...music is meant to bring people together, not ignite childish internet shit storms. So my apologies for off...

I have seen many documentaries about Gould and have read a few books about him that I own. He openly expresses his negative opinions about the music of both Mozart and Beethoven. MY comment about interpretation of piano music was directed at YOU, not Gould.

Also, just to further my point about style, you wouldn't play Chopin metronomically would you? Perhaps you know nothing about the art of interpreting piano music, because your ears have been soiled by Gould's bizarre interpretations.

I know quite a bit about Gould, and I don't prefer his playing. No one is obligated to play exactly what is on the score, but there are certain stylistic boundaries within music, and Gould intentionally ignores them. By the way, Uchida is not even close to my favorite. Her's i...

@BeBopDeluxe85
Do you realize that Gould intentionally played Mozart in a stylistically inappropriate way? Being the arrogant weirdo that he was, he hated Mozart's music and played it in a way that accentuated the aspects of it that he disliked. His playing of this sonata is satirical at best...

Francois Couperin 'Les Baricades Misterieuses'
A short memorable keyboard piece by French Baroque composer, Francois Couperin (1668~1733)
Wonderfully interpreted by Angela Hewitt on piano.
@oldedrum
I believe that Gould was a pianistic genius, though I do not care for his interpretations. As for pianistic interpretations of Bach, I would prefer Andras Schiff of Edwin Fischer.

Poulenc Intermezzo in A Flat Major

I agree. His markings specifically say (in French of course), "straight forward with absolutely no rubato." The French impressionist composers generally put very specific interpretative instructions in their scores, so it's best to use a dictionary to check them if you can't read...

@pushit234 And how do you know what Bach's intentions were? Amazing how no one else that has ever recorded Bach has been aware of his "intentions" in that no one else sounds like Gould, whose interpretations are unorthodox and unique to him. Secondly, Bach's "intentions" would change, had he acc...

Martha Argerich plays Bach toccata in C Minor BWV 911 PART 2
Martha Argerich

Part 1
Bach - Overture in the French Style, in B minor, BWV 831
1. Ouverture (first half)
@RenoRaider Contrart to what many believe, a master pianist like Richter uses the pedal to create color, not for legato. Gould's playing can never be used as a standard of comparison because it was so unique and different. I personally believe that if Bach were able to experience a modern piano...

@Sim882 Let us also not forget that the majority of Mozart's music was written in major keys (especially the piano music). For example, he only wrote 2 sonatas and 2 concerti for piano in minor keys. In other words, 4/46 of his major piano works were in minor keys.

Haydn's music is not always happy. In my opinion, it is often misinterpreted, and is sometimes victimized by the misconception that Haydn intended everything to be"playful," which is not necessarily true. Check out his 33rd keyboard sonata for example Hob. XVI no.20 in c minor. Or so...

CPE Bach Adorjan Andras D minor flute concert III.mvm
A fantastic performance o f CPE Bach music.
@SuperWroclaw The conductor is following the soloist, and keeping the rest of the ensemble in time with the soloist. By, the way he is not behind the orchestra. He is keeping the pulse, the "big beats." You'd be surprised how important a conductor is in keeping even a small ensemble
together.

Pianist: Glenn Gould
Paintings: Johannes Vermeer
Also, it's not that I think competitions denote excellent artistry. I am much more impressed by pianists like Rubinstein, Richter, or even Ax, then I am by the recent Van Cliburn medalists, I was just talking about "stylistic norms" I suppose.

Lol at all these "Gouldians" as I call them. Sure he was brilliant, but his obscure, unique and down right bizarre interpretations hardly suffice to set a suitable paradigm.
