I think it is unfair to criticise Jolson's acting abilities in the late 1920's as, with Hollywood still in it's relative infancy, no one really knew how to differenteriate acting on a stage and acting in a studio.

@dingaring1 - There really is only way to get the adam's apple bobbing up and down like Parks did and that is simply by having the volume turned up to such a degree that you (the lip synch artist) are able to sing along with the recording in your own voice without being heard.

I'll admit that I wasn't even aware of Henry Burr so I wouldn't want to upset any of his fans but listening to this recording you can easily understand why all the composers of the day wanted only Jolson to introduce their new songs.
