Baboon Matters works to protect and manage Chacma Baboons on the Cape Peninsula of South Africa, reducing conflicts between baboons and local residents. We conduct rescues and rehabilitation of injured baboons, and provide monitors who physically keep baboons out of local towns.
The baboons have lost most of their habitat to development and get into trouble with local residents when they raid houses, cars, and gardens looking for tasty human food. Despite being protected by law they are subsequently shot, poisoned, trapped, and run over by angry residents. They are also electrocuted on power lines and hit by cars accidentally.
