AUTISM WEST 2010 WELCOME

Welcome to Autism West's website for 2010.

We hope you enjoyed the festive season and got some relaxation over the school holidays. 2009 was certainly a very busy year for us, establishing the Autism West Centre in Nedlands, and working on building alliances with the universities and the professional sector to create a hub for research, education and service provision for Autism Spectrum Disorder in Western Australia. The Board of Management have been working really hard in progressing all aspects of our strategic plan. We look forward to continued progress throughout 2010.

Autism West aims to establish WA's premier resource centre specifically focused on Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Resource centre will include an extensive library, computer games, electronic equipment and toys. We are pleased to announce that this can now be a reality, thank you to the generous contribution from Argonaut Limited; we are pleased to announce the opening of the "Argonaut Autism West Resources Centre".

Autism West has many activities/programs planned for 2010. See more information within about the Term 1 program. If you require further information or want to register your interest, please contact Gabriella on 6389 1833 or email info@autismwest.org.au This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Be quick so you don't miss out.

Autism West welcomes you all to the centre, pop in for a coffee, browse through the resource centre, we would be happy to show you around. We welcome any suggestions/feedback in relation to all aspects of how we can support you! Hope to see you all soon.

I wish we could change the language of 'suffer'. We're not 'suffering from autism'. People are 'suffering' with cancer . We're challenged by the world around us because the neurotypical world would like us to normalise and fit in. Families with autistics are challenged because the world will not accommodate us the way the world has to accommodate people with other challenges. If we continue to push the 'normalisation' agenda in lieu of an agenda that supports, encourages and understands the gifts that autistics have to share; nothing is going to improve for any of us. <3
