STOP PRESS: TV in Australia celebrates it's 75th Birthday in 2009:

"Good Evening and welcome to Television.. " the words uttered by Bruce Gyngell on the FIRST night of TV Broadcasting in Australia in Sydney in 1956.. or was it ?

One of Australia's best kept scientific and broadcasting secrets is that TV in the southern hemisphere was actually born in Brisbane in 1934.

Next year Queensland turns 150.. Brisbane's QTQ 9, BTQ 7 and ABQ 2 will commemorate 50 years on air and Television itself will celebrate it's 75th Birthday.

It was in Brisbane that TV Pioneers, Tom Elliott and Val McDowall began regular albeit experimental 30 line transmissions from the Tower Mill on Wickham Terrace in April of 1934.

The late Bruce Gyngell himself paid tribute to these Pioneers admitting he was NOT the first face on Australian Television when he presented the inaugural Eugene Goosens lecture in 1993.

G'day .. I have been collecting Promos,IDs, News items and clips from here in Australia and around the world since 1977.

Many of the Videos posted have been recorded either on BETAMAX or VHS and have been converted to DVD and then XviD, DivX and WMV for upload. These Videos were recorded in various locations in line with where I was working at the time, here in Australia and around the World.. Lucky they lasted the distance to be posted here on YouTube.

Videos dated 1988 onwards were recorded in STEREO, however some may sound mono because the Broadcasters in some regional areas where I recorded them were not yet transmitting in stereo.

Thanks again for all the positive feedback you have given me so far.. I will endeavour to continue bringing more priceless memories to video life in 2008.

PLEASE NOTE: The Videos posted remain the copyright of the Broadcasters listed and are shared here for Educational and Historical purposes.

I enjoy Star Trek (original series) and Space 1999. Good to see our social history and looking back at the good old days of television, and some interesting surprises.

Love all your uploads. One of my uploads has VFL footballers singing the Channel 7 theme in 1985, I also have the actual theme somewhere else on one of my many tapes.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks for uploading all these old clips. I'm loving seeing all the old stuff after having not seen some for nearly 20 years and also stuff I hadn't seen before.

Keep it up mate

I wanted to ask you: How come you know Mightor ? I mean, Did it ever air on Aussie TV ?
The reason I'm asking you is because I used to watch it in the Philipines when I was a kid, and I'm kind of surprised that someone who didn't grow either in the U.S. or the Philipines knows it...
