Aswad have sold more than 4 million albums since their massive break through hit Dont Turn Around brought their unique reggae vibes to the mainstream when it hit the number one spot in 1988. This was followed in 1994 by the massive worldwide hit single Shine and a Grammy Nomination for Best Reggae Album of the Year.

Aswad, (which means black in Arabic) are "Drummie Zeb" (on vocals and drums), and Tony "Gad" (bass, keyboards, vocals) and are renowned among reggae fans for their sunshine feel good vibes, positive burbling reggae basslines and uplifting vocal style. They are known for their adventurous fusion of musical styles such as dancehall, funk, hip-hop and dub.

The band has toured extensively, playing to packed houses in diverse locales from London's Royal Albert Hall and Montego Bay's Reggae Sunsplash, to gigs in West Africa, Israel and Japan.

12th April sees the release of City Lock, the title track from the legendary Aswads first album in 10 years. The band return with this wicked dancehall track in collaboration with MC Sweetie Irie.

City Lock, written by the band and Irie, mixes R&B rhythms with dancehall and reggae. Were sticking our right foot into some urban flavours! (Tony Gad, Aswad). The single is taken from the bands latest album of the same name, praised by Blues & Soul Magazine as arguably their best since Rise & Shine.

Drum & bass DJ/producer Breakage, whose recent hit Hard was hailed by Zane Lowe (Radio 1) as his Hottest Record in The World, has added a bass heavy quality to the track with a wicked jungle remix; this joins DJ/Producer Roskas mix and the bands own Grove mix.

The video that accompanies City Lock was shot in Shoreditch, East London and was directed by Ben Goodger.
