The Mars series consists of ten books in total. I read them all when I was a kid and loved them. E.R-B. also wrote a Venus series - unfortunately four books. What an imagination that man had. Like Jules Verne, way way ahead of his time.

My old teacher who was a coach at the MET in the 50's and 60's always said Carteri was the only soprano (the only one, and that includes MC) of whom Tebaldi was truly afraid. She even went so far as to threaten Bing, if he hired Carteri she would no longer sing at the MET - or so he always claime...
