Assaji Tanchangya aka Karuna Priya is a Buddhist practitioner from Bangladesh. He obtained his Masters Degree in Indian Buddhism from SOAS, University of London (2010). Assaji studied Buddhist Scriptures in Pāli and Sanskrit in Sri Lanka from the age of 14 under the guidance of many prominent teachers. He completed his Bachelors Degree from the International Buddhist College in Thailand.Beside his religious education, he is also an independent film-maker. He started his film studies when he first attended a university film workshop and then volunteered in Japanese Film Festival in London. In 2009, he made a short film called 'Freedom' and produced two documentary film projects. 1. Finding Happiness: Based on the concept of happiness, this documentary explores the manifold definitions and nature of happiness. There seems a constant battle between career and spirituality in pursuit of happiness. The interviewers were asked how they manage to find a balance. 2. A Statue for George Orwell: With the success of 'Freedom', a journalist editor of Greenwich Times approached and requested him to film 'A Stutue for George Orwell', a Greenwich Theatre production. George Orwell was a visionary writer/journalist who wrote Animal Farm and 1984.
Subsequently, he has been offered to work as 2nd Assistant Producer for a feature film '51 Degrees'. He has also been an background artists in two feature films 'Johny English Reborn' and also '47 Ronin'. In September 2011, he has produced and also co-directed another short film called 'Safalta', a Newari-Nepal speaking film which was short in the colourful city of Kathmandu, Nepal.
Assaji lives in London and works as a freelancer in Films and TV. He also teaches meditation, spirituality and Sanskrit language privately and at his spare time volunteers as education fund and media coordinator at Byoma Kusuma Buddhadharma Sangha, UK.
