Musician of the first half of the twentieth century, Heitor Villa Lobos was born and died in Rio de Janeiro. Cellist, guitarist, composer, he studied music first in Brazil and in Europe.

Villa-Lobos has devoted part of his life traveling to Brazil to discover the folklore of his country, but was also fascinated by European music, particularly that of Bach. The Bachianas Brasileiras are pieces written for small ensembles or orchestra, in which the composer pays tribute to Bach (writing recalls the baroque music), but also inspired by songs and dances in Brazil.
