About this user

I am a professor of educational psychology at Marian University. I work with the most dedicated, enthusiastic, student-centered graduate students. I am so proud of them! They are teachers, and many work with at-risk youth on a daily basis--or want to. Truth is, all teachers should be prepared to teach at-risk kids. If you are in Marian University's DIAL Program you slowly become an Angel-Warrior Educator (AWE), and you are a sight to behold in action.
You can airdrop one of my AWEsome educators into the middle of a passel of at-risk kids anywhere and by the closing bell miracles in learning would already be forming.

They are funny, too. So are at-risk kids. We don't abide these kids. We love 'em. We want 'em. Send them to us. You should see what is beneath the exterior of these kids! Under the hood they are bright, funny, warm and caring. They have been shat on by life and no one gives a crap...but AWE.

We need more pride in our profession. We do not teach math, science, or coach basketball. We teach and coach kids. Real human beings who we know never asked to be placed at risk. The last thing they need in their lives is a bunch of certified people telling them that the stuff they have inherited makes them scum. It's a lie believed by many.
But it is still a lie.
And the last thing we professionals should do is re-victimize victims. What is that about?? I go on the assumption it is just ignorance. The other answers make me throw up.
I am a professor.
I remove ignorance.

Remember this: We are so powerful that we can convince ourselves we are not -- then make it come true.
