About Arusha Arts Initiative
Arusha Arts Initiative is a group of actors, dancers, and musicians studying at Juilliard that travelled to Arusha, Tanzania in May to work with students ages 14-29 at Umoja Youth Empowerment Center. None of the students attend government schools, mostly for reasons related to poverty. Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world, and has a high HIV/AIDS prevalence. Umoja offers free classes to learn vocational skills such as computers, tailoring, and languages.
