Broken Yolk In Western Sky

10,920 views 3 years ago
Ben Gibbard performing "Broken Yolk In Western Sky."

This scene is part of TrixieFilm's 2007 DVD, "Burn to Shine 5: Seattle, WA." Burn to Shine is an ongoing DVD series created by a collaboration between filmmaker Christoph Green and ex-Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty.

Green & Canty select a house that is set to be demolished in a certain city and ask a member of a local band to curate the event. In one day they shoot all of the selected bands giving each band an hour to set up and perform with no overdubs or corrections.

They document the house's history and subsequent demolition, creating bookends for the performances on the DVD.

Ben Gibbard is the lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service, and lesser-known for his side project ¡All-Time Quarterback! and his first band, Pinwheel.

If you stumbled upon this video I assume you're as much a fan of his work as I am. In that case, more information you may not know is that he recently joined Twitter. His tweets often express his die-hard fandom for baseball and all-things Mariners, while also keeping his followers up to date on his more dark secrets- Most notably, his obsession with reality TV shows- well worth following.

(I could go for the easy joke about 'it being nice to know that even your idols have flaws,' but I can't. I mean, SERIOUSLY, Cake Boss & Man vs. Food are phenomenal.)

Thanks for watching (& reading?) Enjoy!

LEGAL STUFF: If you're wondering why I've put so much work into the description, I'm hoping it will give Trixie, their DVD series, and Ben the credit and respect they deserve for the work this clip is from. I do not own the rights to "Burn to Shine," nor to Ben Gibbard's music as seen in the above video. As such I will gladly take this down if either party so wishes. My only intent was to spread appreciation for the DVD series & it's involved musicians / artists / filmmakers. Show less
