@whitelight7733 One of the easiest ways to give a 'floating' object some kind of context is to add a line in the background. This line can be horizontal (to denote a horizon line) or in your case a vertical line (to represent a wall) passing behind the object, will add both texture and direction. Be careful not to let the lines dominate. These secondary additions should be used only to tie your object down visually. In the end you must be the judge, but this is a very simple technique that will pay good dividends for your drawing technique and increase your confidence

cheers for the friend request. I really like your page as it's a great help with my drawing! If I draw a large piece on an a4 & there's little room to put in a background. How do I stop the image from floating? (any background ideas as the image is a clock. The kind that sits above a fireplace or on a shelf)
