Yep, that's Jerry Colona on the far left. He was staff trombonist at NBC before he become a comedian, and even tried out to replace Tommy Dorsey after Tommy left the Dorsey brothers orchestra in 1935.

Wow, Jim! Just absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much for posting this. I met Jim at the 2007 Las Vegas ITF. A real gentleman, a wonderful player, and a genuine human being. It was a pleasure meeting him, and a highlight of my "career" as a hobbyist trombonist. You won't many pros of his calibre as...

The 112 bpm is the cadence at which British Commonwealth military units march. In Canad, we march at 120 bpm. This explains the difference in tempi.

The trumpet sound at 1:58 sounds like a trill, really closer to what is called a shake, followed by a fall, the descending slide sound. I don't know if on a trumpet they can do that with their vlaves. I am guessing probably, but I am not sure. Hope this helps

At lest one of the trumpet players was Mannie Kiene. The clarinetist is of course Benny Goodman, and the tromboninst, the great Jack Teagarden. Man he sure played better straight horn in those days.
Just saw this. Wonderful! What a riveting performance! Truly first class! What are you doing now? Are you studying aboad?
