I find that there are weird solutions to these problems, it's just so hard to put your finger on them sometimes.
i tried it through a small practise amp for my bass and that was okay until you turned it up loud, i then tried through a small practise amp for guitars and that worked but their range isn't good, so it soudned clean but with too much treble.
I ended up getting an acoutsic guitar amo because they are perfectly clean, and that worked well.
