@nickn5nl Some Airophon organs by Bruder use a small barrel arrangement to play a drum solo whilst the roll is rewinding. Unfortunately, I have never inspected this mechanism personally, but I have heard it on a recording somewhere.

Thanks for posting this. It makes a nice change from the ubiquitous Can-Can usually played for visitors and seen on YouTube. Last time I was there we played many long books. It's about time we had another CD of this fantastic machine.

@pianoman1984 See my comment. Recording was done before restoration completely finished. The percussion cutoff manifold was leaking which allowed the woodblock to operate from a register. Jazzband rolls use a slightly different scale with the woodblock added in place of a register on the stand...

Very interesting! You may be able to provide a voltage from the electromagnetic radiation around us, but as soon as you remove POWER from this supply it will die, ie, voltage will drop like a stone. You confuse voltage and power. The former is analagous to the water behind a hydroelectric dam....

Please tune this piano. The half-blow is not 'half'-blowing' so your expression is poor. Some restoration appears to have been done but they have forgotten to carefully regulate the action.

Ref; St Albans Unika. I inspected this when I was recently there. It has the older style of bellows rather than the later box pump. The serial number has been removed! This makes it difficult to date. I am told that Grymonprez used to do things like that when selling instruments - Vandal! T...

This performance is spoilt by the acoustics. Fair organs are designed to be played outdoors with a dead acoustic, ie, no reverberation. It also sounds great when played in its home, the museum at Waldkirch, which is small enough to not have excessive reverberation.

If it works don't fix it. This organ is the best advert for leaving organs on books and not messing about with modern technology. Use MIDI for new organs. Leave old organs alone.

Class 378 doesn't use Japanese traction. It uses German/Swedish Bombardier traction system and the trains are designed and built in Derby, UK.

The Triburg museum is well worth a visit. All the orchestrions can be played by the use of coin boxes. All instruments are in reasonable condition, considering it is a public museum. They also house the barrel organ collection of the late Kurt Neimuth and these can be played by the public, und...

This organ was built as a book organ so has never been a barrel organ. It is still housed in its original trailer, also built in Waldkirch, by Mack. Only the wheels have been changed, from solid rubber to pneumatics.

But the owner states on Ebay that this piano is original and playing a G roll. Seeburg E's play A rolls which are registered for a single extra instrument, pipes or xylophone whichever is fitted. It is a chain perforation, fourth from the right.

It is sad that this rag has had so much exposure. It gives the general public such a bad impression of ragtime. It is without doubt Joplin's worst rag.

Oh, and to answer MrMusicman488, there is a movie about Scott Joplin, and very good it is too. It's only been on TV once that I can remember.
