It turned out to be a little bit harder than estimated - I kind of thought it would be easy. We walked along the ski road past the very last ski lift and then turned onto the trail that was marked amphitheater. From there we climbed a long forested trail into the bowl of the amphitheater. Then we climbed a ridge looking down into the bowl, and then behind a small mountain across a huge scree slope, and then up to the big goal - where we could see Banff. We chilled for a while and headed down. Mistakenly we tried to descend via the bowl but that was a mistake, it was too sketchy, and after some scary incidents including a massive boulder literally almost crushing me, we bailed, reconnoitered and got the hell out of there. We didn't bring quite enough water - overall underestimating things a bit. And I did not have my water filtration system or pills. Nature was very instructive basically. Of note the forest fires made things very misty, and it did spatter rain on us - but we had gear.

this was a total of 6 hours; 4 or more hours up and then 1 to 2 hours down. i found the best place to park was literally at hole #1 on the golf course below; and this is where the trail head is ( you have to walk across the edge of the green near the spray river). the first portion of the hike is easy - to the big gully - from there it gets to be quite vertical to the top of the tree line. from the top of the treeline it is bare scree and strenuous although at least you can see your goal so that helps provide a sense of time.
