Anita Lerche / Singer / Songwriter
Since Anita released her Punjabi album, Heer from Denmark in India in November 2006, her career as an international recording artist and star has expanded leaps and bounds.
Asians/Indians across the globe have shown great appreciation and support for her work and talent. This has led to her touring all over the world performing and entertaining huge crowds with her unique and electrifying performances.
Anita Lerche is the first non-Asian woman from the West to sing and release a solo album in Punjabi.
The Times of India (India's largest circulated English newspaper) commented, "Anita has also rendered traditional Heer in the album and succeeded in imbuing the depth, pain and passion of the rich composition. In fact, going by her style and pronunciation, one would get the impression that she is a Punjabi only to discover that she is a Scandinavian."
The Indian Express (one of India's leading national daily with multiple editions) commented, "Lerche sang in what is referred to as "thet Punjabi" which basically means the accent is perfect and native." Further, The Indian Express went on to state, "Lerche scores because she is totally uninhibited with terrific energy, and a delight to watch, performing the gidda. For a gori with the right lachaks, singing our tunes, the sky's the limit."
Anita received a Punjabi Music Award in 2007 for the Best NRI Female Debut from the Punjabi music channel MH1, and she has been acknowledged by Punjabi University, Patiala, for her grand work for the Punjabi language and culture.
In 2007 & 2011, she created a Hindi song for the Indian Cricket team during the World Cup. She amazed audiences by singing Hindi Bhajans for the Ram Navami celebrations in Punjab and received the Sita Mata Award from a religious society in Jalandhar.
Recently, Anita received the Pride of the Indians Award from Indian Cultural Society Denmark and a Danish World Award 2009 for World Track of the Year with her Punjabi song, Maahiya featuring Cheshire Cat.
Anita Lerche's singing capability does not end there. She is in fact able to sing and perform in 16 different languages. Anita has a degree from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, where she studied Musical Theatre and has also released the album I Love a Piano.
Currently Anita is putting a last hand on her upcoming Punjabi album including Jugni, Maahiya and Chandeni, which is due to be released in the near future! Her video "Jugni" has just been recorded in Toronto. She is also featured in the Punjabi song, Aao Ji, which already has more than 500.000 hits on YouTube.
