This whole thing seems so self-indulgent. I was there for 13 months in the early 60's. None of this existed then. Mostly, I observed people trying to just get by, under U.S. occupation. Okinawa under the current Japanese occupation seems worse, even if it is economically more prosperous.

The majority of students found it a bit boring because politicians don't matter. The people who drive consumerism are the businessmen. Got help us.
