About this user

Andrew Zapanta was born in the river town of Nyack, NY. His diverse lineage traces its roots to Russia, Portugal, Spain, China, Germany, Poland and the Philippines. At the age of sixteen, he began writing songs and playing the guitar, bass, piano and drums. A self-proclaimed renaissance man, Andrew also studied drawing, painting and sculpture at SUNY Purchase and in Florence, Italy.

A vagabond of sorts, Andrew has traveled about the globe to points such as Spain, Switzerland, France and the Philippines. He has lived on both coasts and spent three years across the Atlantic in Manchester, England. During his time in England, he continued to exhibit his artwork, write music and perform solo gigs in and around Manchester. Venues included Revise, Night & Day, the Contact Theatre, regular performances at The Iguana Bar as well as a solo performance at The Festival of Light in Edenfield.

During the same period, he was also a percussionist for The Urban Gypsies, a belly dance ensemble which performed at festivals and workshops across England.

Currently, Andrew is the singer-songwriter for the brooklyn-based indie sou/reggae band Zap & The Naturals along with Sarah Wood (backing vocals/melodica/percussion), Ry Pilla (drums/backing vocals) and Joel Pixley-Fink (bass). Zap & The Naturals has recently returned from the 2011 Montauk Music Festival. They've also been the featured act at many NYC events including the multimedia extravaganza "The United States of Conciousness" in Williamsburg, "Mothership" in lower Manhattan and "The Digable Arts Festival" in Hoboken, NJ. In July, they will be performing at the Soulsational Music Festival at the Jersey Shore.

In 2006, Andrew was voted "Songwriter Of the Year" by International Online magazine. The song "Picasso" from their recently released EP - Ebb Or Flow , was aired on 107.1 The Peak and they are currently recording there second album due out summer 2011.
