It got stolen many many years ago. Like his double guitars, each part was able to break off, so his quad was made up of 2 7-strings and 2 6-strings. I know he got half of it back not that long ago, I think he got the 7-strings back

Actually there's a bit of truth to both sides. All of James guitar's have an EMG PA2 onboard which is a distortion pre-amp, and you do see him click it on in the video. For the most part though, yes the effects are done through the amp
