What marvellously mature, clear and somehow symmetrical playing for a pianist of such a young age. Bravo!

Zimerman plays Chopin Ballade No. 1
Zimerman plays Chopin!
Stunning... especially the loud a-major passages. I feel myself rising and falling with his playing, if you know what I mean.
Beautifully clear pedalling, careful voicing and wonderful dynamics, as well as an effortless technique. Perhaps my favourite interpretation of the piece.

Argerich Plays Chopin: Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Opus 23
Chopin Ballade No. 1 in G minor, Opus 23
Pianist: Martha Argerich
Recorded in 1959
Guys, listen to the sound quality of the recording. This is not a new recording, which means that she was very young when she performed it. I am aware that there are faults in the playing, and it may not be as good as Pollini or Ashkenazy, but heck, were they 18 when they recorded it? Because tod...

@abidoful this is how Rachmaninoff sounded way before Kissin was even a sperm cell. This shows how everyone is trying to sound like Rachmaninoff, since he was one of the first recording artists to sound perfect in almost every way. They are not trying to make Rach sound like Evgeny Kissin; it is ...

Antonio Pompa-Baldi plays Moszkowski Etude Op. 72 #2
Antonio Pompa-Baldi plays Moritz Moszkowski's Etude Op. 72 #2. Live performance.
For those of you who are arguing about the tempo (julywapo in particular) remember that most tempo markings generally mean a certain number of crotchet beats per minute. The composer wrote each group of triplets as semiquaver triplets (I.e quaver divided into three) so perhaps the performer is r...

Sergei Rachmaninoff - Prelude op 23 nº 5 in Gm (Valentina Igoshina)
Russian pianist Valentina Igoshina plays Rachmaninoff's prelude in Gm.
My favorite interpretation, please enjoy.
I don't understand what everyone sees in Lisitsa. Although she is an outstanding pianist with whom I could not be compared, I find her playing quite harsh, disjointed and unsettling to hear compared to most concert soloists. I listen to concert giants like Argerich and Ashkenazy, or even less wel...

@finlayma84 That's because if a performance is actually good, people are jealous of it and therefore criticize. If a performance is bad, they sympathise with the musician and therefore praise them.
If a pianist has a "musical mind" but has a technique which prevents them from playing with expres...

@smzig Rachmaninov stated himself that Horowitz played it how he wanted it to sound. Just because it is the composer playing it does not mean that he is playing it the way he wants it. I am in the process of composing a rhapsody in G-minor for the piano, and unfortunately I myself cannot play it ...

This is perhaps my favourite interpretation of this piece. She plays the opening section much faster than any other pianist I've heard, but in a good way. She doesn't play it so fast that it sounds retarded, but she doesn't let it hang around too much like most pianists do. I also love how she us...
