Just the same as the role of a director in a normal feature film. The director decides how the story is told. The writers lay out the dialogue, the plot and what the story is about, and the director is in charge of how a certain character is supposed to enunciate their dialogue, how they are supposed to look when they are on screen, and how the story progresses. The director can make editing changes as well, which means they can decide to take out a scene if it doesn't work with the overall movie, but usually this is the work of the film editors
